As a group, decide on one particular fallacy of relevance that you want to present in a short (1 – 2 minutes) video.
You can get clear instructions and useful tools, free of charge, at Screencast-o-matic. (Links to an external site.)Once your video is recorded, post it on YouTube and send me a link. I will post your videos on Canvas for all of us to enjoy.
Your video presentation should include the description of the chosen fallacy, an explanation of its faulty logos, and a good example of its application.
I am not grading your work on the basis of your multimedia skills; your mastery of the subject matter is evaluated. Creativity is always a bonus, as most of us appreciate that.
Feel free to use examples from pop culture or the media for your analysis of the fallacious argument(s), but don’t forget to provide the context or background information for your audience.
Some suggestions: Your group video does not require anyone of your group being video-recorded unless you decide to do that. It could be a voice over the content. Since it is a group assignment, all members participate in the selection of the fallacy for the group to focus on. Afterwards, all members contribute to the way it will be presented: the textual part and the multimedia form. Finally, depending on the group’s choice of format, some of you will produce the video.
As I see it, you will share responsibilities: a multimedia-savvy partner will be in charge of video production, a wordsmith will edit the final draft of the text of the presentation, another group member should act as a coordinator among other members, with the fourth member assisting anyone else as agreed among you.
As you submit your final product, include the actual participants and their roles (optional) and attach a PDF with the textual part of your presentation. For grading convenience, each group member should submit the link and the PDF, which you have shared within your group.
Have fun!And enjoy this production of Max Shulman’s humorous short story “Love Is a Fallacy.” (Links to an external site.)
