Assignment –Group Observation
Focus: to obtain a view of another person’s world
Goal: to understand group dynamics, perception,
Directions: Pick 2 groups of people that will be observed (teens, children, seniors, mature adults).
Remember a group is a minimum of 3 persons.
Pick two groups to observe. You will summarize your observations and compare and contrast them. First, observe a group of (pick one group) children/adolescents/seniors or mature adults for about 20 minutes.
You are required to write constantly as you observe. Do not stop your pen or pencil, write as continuously as you can for the entire period of observation. When observing, pick a crowded area in which you can observe without intruding on the person you are observing (a mall, a big playground, an airport, a bus terminal, a school, a family gathering, a restaurant, etc.).
Now pick your second group (teens, children, seniors, mature adults) and repeat the instruction previously given.
Your second group cannot be the same as your first group!
When you have completed both your two 20-minute observations, type up what you have written. Include:
Your personal reflection for each observation. Discuss how did each observation impact you, what did you learn about life, self, family, community, group dynamics, cohesion, human nature, God?
Then compare and contrast your findings of the two groups. Review grammar and punctuation. No run-on sentences. Double-space and use font 12.
