Assignment 1 Instructions
For this assignment, you will need to watch Troxel’s (2016) TED Talk (Links to an external site.). and read Fitzpatrick et al.’s (2021) article (Links to an external site.). After you have completed this week’s assigned reading, watched the TED Talk, and read the article, answer the questions below in APA format with a title page, in-text citations, and a reference page.
Based on what you have learned about sleep and sleep deprivation, do you believe Troxel (2016) effectively explains why school should start later for teenagers? Explain why/why not using information from the TED Talk and your textbook to provide support for your point-of-view.
Troxel (2016) mentions that public policy is a major factor for why teenagers are not getting enough sleep, as many schools begin earlier than the 8:30AM start time recommended by medical organizations. After reading Fitzpatrick et al.’s (2021) article, how likely do you believe public policy will change and later start times will become more common? Explain using information from Fitzpatrick et al.’s (2021) article regarding perceived barriers and facilitating factors to support your view. In your answer, discuss which perceived barrier and which facilitating factor you believe would be the most important to take into consideration when implementing later start times for schools.
As stated in the syllabus, you cannot use direct quote in-text citations for this assignment. Instead, you must paraphrase/summarize information from sources and provide in-text citations (Please see the APA guide (Links to an external site.) and/or ask your professor if you need help).
Your assignment must include a title page, in-text citations, and a reference page. If your assignment does not include in-text citations and references, you may receive 0 points for the assignment.
Please utilize the assignment rubric as a guide while working on your assignment.
