POST 1 :
Hi !
Copyright
If you own a copyright, the work that you created is legally protected by United States laws. This keeps others from being able to take the credit for all your hard work. If others want to use it, they need to ask your permission first. It is always important to give credit where credit us due. An example of a copyright violation is when someone goes to the movie theatre and records the film that they are watching and distributes it in an illegal way.
Public domain
Public domain is work that does not have a copyright on it, or work where the copyright has expired. Anyone is free to use the information as they see fit.
Fair use
Fair use is when you can use copyrighted information without having to get permission from the creator.  An example of this would be using a news clip to present in a workplace meeting.
POST 2 :
Copyrights are the legal rights an author or creator has over their work, which protects it from being used or shared in ways that allows another to benefit from it unfairly. Copyright holders have the exclusive right to copy, distribute, and share their work. Something new that I learned from the tutorial, is that all material captured in a “fixed format” is covered by copyright law, which includes things that are not labeled as such.
Copyright is violated when someone other than the author copies, distributes, shares, or performs someone else’s material without their permission. An example of copyright violation is if someone comes across a screenplay and proceeds to turn it into a movie without the original author’s permission. The violator could be sued.
The Fair Use Act recognizes that certain uses of copyright protected work do not require permission, such as for commentary, parody, news reporting, research and education. There are four factors used to determine whether a use is considered “fair use”: 1) Purpose and character of the use, 2) nature of copyrighted work, 3) amount and substantiality, 4) effect of use on market or potential market. All four factors must be considered to effectively weigh whether a use is fair.
An example of fair use is a teacher using a textbook to teach his or her students a History lesson. While the textbook material is covered by copyright laws, teachers do not need permission to teach the published material to their students.
Public Domain refers to the collection of works that are either no longer covered by copyright laws or never were. There are no laws governing who accesses or use the information.
