The reading provides that policy claims are the conclusion of argument. The purpose of policy claims is to make an assertion about a policy and this is through four recognized methods, definitive, designative, evaluative and advocative, For example, a definitive or factual claim is one where an administrator would state XYZ is going to take place because of the following A,B,C factors. It will be shown that ZYZ will take place because of the following reasons attributed to A,B,C.
When I was at the police department, the agency subscribed to a national philosophy called “below 100.” The premise is that the deaths of police officers on a national basis (prior to Covid-19) could be held to below 100 if agencies made a philosophical shift where officers wore their bullet resistant vests, wore seat belts while driving, kept the speed they drove down, focused on what was important at that moment and adopted the idea that complacency kills officers. At my agency this was evident on multiple instances. For example one of our officers was shot in the line of duty and his vest stopped the round that would have struck his heart. Multiple officers at various times were involved in accidents where they were saved from death by wearing their seat belts.
At my current agency (the Department of Public Health) the raging debate that is taking place is the significant and vastly different opinions about Covid-19. One matter that is taking place is investigations are being conducted into threats to violently and seriously harm/kill health care workers due to their treatment of Covid-19 patients. The analytical data strongly suggests that the vaccines are effective at saving lives however the community ethics in certain regions of the state are opposed to that data to the point to where workers are being followed home and individuals are threatening to murder them.
