A. Select two cultural groups that are among the U.S. EL student population and discuss them using a minimum of three credible, published sources, including at least one credible, published source for each cultural group. Include the following in your discussion:
Note: Sources could include interviews, census reports, government policy websites, academic journal articles, or other credible references.
1. Describe background information on the homeland and society of origin for both of the selected cultural groups, including the history behind both groups becoming part of the U.S. EL population.
2. Using specific examples, discuss at least two characteristics of both cultural groups for each of the following:
a. language
b. important traditions or taboos
c. socioeconomic factors (i.e., income, industries, refugee status, educational attainment, etc.)
B. Analyze the background information and characteristics discussed in part A by doing the following:
1. Discuss how the characteristics in part A2 affect students’ needs at school for both cultural groups discussed in part A.
2. Using the information in part A, discuss how a teacher can implement effective instructional approaches and family outreach practices to create a culturally responsive or culturally sustaining classroom for each cultural group.
C. Acknowledge sources, using APA-formatted in-text citations and references, for content that is quoted, paraphrased, or summarized.
D. Demonstrate professional communication in the content and presentation of your submission.
