Topic 3 DQ 1
Foremost, the articles presented recommend an evidence-based approach to handling the short nurse ratios in the healthcare system. The first article written by Halter, established that there are less available means to retain nurses in the hospitals, thus increasing turnover (Halter, et al., 2017). The second article by Hayward, presented an intervention that can only be learnt from the perspectives of the nurses which has affected the quality of health and even affected the patients who require intensive care (Hayward & Bungay, 2016).
Thirdly, an article by Rivaz opined that there is need to increase the resources available to ensure that the nurses are well catered for (Rivaz, Momennasab, Yektatalab, & Ebadi, 2017). Fourthly, the article on consequences of nursing turnover by Boiko presents best ways to ensure that adult nurses are treated well to lengthen their stay at the hospitals (Halter, et al., 2017). Additionally, the fifth article by Heidari has outlined the factors that can be considered to retain nurses and eventually curb the problem of shortage (Heidari, Seifi, & Gharebagh, 2017). Finally an article by Lyu critically analyzed the best methods to retain nurses and ensure effective healthcare delivery (Lyu, Li, Li, & Li, 2016).
Ideally, looking at the studies, most of the articles used interviews and questionnaires, which has some demerits. The participants might be unwilling to take part in the process, which affects the credibility of the research. Therefore, most of the analysis methods used are not clear on the outcome. Moreover, these articles have captured the personal experiences of nurses concerning the intervention to the shortage. The unwillingness of the participants may affect the consequences of the result. Additionally, the interpretation of the analysis presented can be hard to some students. Furthermore, it must be appreciated that the six articles have clearly addressed the problem of shortage.
