ntroduction
The final requirement for this course is the completion of the Final Project that demonstrates your understanding of the major concepts covered over the last 7 weeks. Your project must start with an interesting and meaningful research question; use a good design for data collection; summarize the data visually, numerically, and verbally; use the data to make appropriate inferences; and reach sound conclusions about the original research question. You’ve learned a lot this year. Now it’s time to show off!
The purpose of the Final Project is for you to determine the prices for two retail establishments to learn if the item prices are lower or higher than the other retailer by using statistical testing, providing visual graphs and completing a PowerPoint presentation of your findings. You have learned and understand more than you realize about statistics and how to apply them in different situations. The Final Project is the place you put those learnings into action.
Activity Instructions
Final Project Paper Requirements: Compare the prices of not less than 30 items (minimum sample size) for two different retailers to establish if there is a statistically significant difference between the prices of items between two retailers. Presentation Requirements: Students are to construct, provide and upload a Microsoft PowerPoint, presentation that provides a brief overview of the different sections of the Final Project Research Paper and of their research conclusions.
Number of Slides: A minimum of 6 slides that will include a brief summary from your Final Project Research Paper.
Tips for Success
Your Final Project is to be Master’s-level work, with your statistical test(s) applied and explained. When comparing prices of two data sets – the word “cheaper” can be improved upon by using words like discount, inexpensive, lower; less expensive; moderate, modest, or even reasonable as opposed to “cheaper”. The other word we struggle with at Master level work is “quality” – quality to one person means something totally different to another – we could spend years researching to establish what “quality” means. Quality is without a doubt one of those words that leaves us hanging as to its meanings. Please keep. These two words in mind as you author your project.5+ pages Final Project Research Paper
