Directions
A number of common and innovative dispositions for juveniles were presented in the text and videos in the LP9 Learning Activities. Using the materials from the textbook and the learning plan, research and respond to the scenario and questions below. Include the appropriate supporting evidence from your research.
Scenario: Select a role you would like to play for this scenario and your paper. 1) Judge; 2) Prosecutor; 3) Defense Attorney.
Roman is a 13-year-old male. He has been arrested for selling cocaine in his middle school. This is the first time that Roman has been in trouble. Roman is an average student and rarely misses classes. He says that he was approached by a local teenager who offered to let him sell the drugs to make some money. Roman lives with his mother and three-year-old sister in a small apartment near the school. Mom is unemployed and the family is having a rough time. Roman says he wanted to make money to help his mother. Roman’s dad is currently in prison on a drug trafficking conviction. Answer the following using the role you selected:
Describe the role you selected and what your role will be in the courtroom workgroup.
How will you participate (in your role) in the courtroom in the best interest of Roman?
Describe three (3) potential options you would consider for Roman? Would you look at special programs? Diversion? Plea bargain? What would they be? Explain your rationale.
Discuss the go/no-go decision-making process. How could this technique be incorporated in this scenario?
