Module 4 Lab: Who Am I?
Background: In Chapter 14 we study that self-concept, the descriptive component of the self, is the basis for one’s understanding of the self, and it forms the answer to the question, “Who am I?”
Goal: To have you actively think about your own self-concept.
Activity: Write down the first 10 things that come to mind when answering the question, “Who am I?” The answers do not need to be in any particular order – just write them down as they come to mind.
Write: What is the nature of your self-concept, and how did it develop? How does your self-concept influence how your experience and react to the world around you?

Discussion Module 4: Spot The Fake Smile
Background Information: This Discussion is based on our understanding of emotions as categorical or dimensional (chapter 13). One of the most well-known researchers in this area is Paul Ekman, who identified 7 primary emotions that involve a distinct facial expression and that are recognized across cultures. Happiness is one of these primary emotions. Just how good are you at recognizing this primary emotion?
Try to spot the difference between fake and real smiles! Take the following online quiz developed by Professor Paul Ekman; it will take about 7 minutes.
