Bryan:
The grading rubric for WA#4 contains the following 10 major categories. I’ve noted comments following each category.
You have until 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, August 10 to make and submit any revisions, edits, and proofs.
Explicitly clear targeted reader(s) and purpose (24%) – have to wander through a lot of words to “guess” that startups are the targeted readers and that the purpose is to help them learn how to use SEO techniques to target customers. Why not just say this clearly and explicitly – then write the rest of the paper focused around that reader and purpose.
Appropriate, labeled use of three meaningful graphics; two graphics original (18%) – all three graphics are “borrowed”; 2 need to be original. None of the graphics are APA-7 labeled and attributed
Correct and appropriate grammar/punctuation/spelling (15%) – sentence fragments; incomplete thoughts
Relevant, timely, credible “new” research (12%) – there is no “new” research – just a statement about the condition that already exists. Need something “NEW,” which usually comes from unpublished research (an interview or survey – you may have to make this up and cite it as “personal communication).
Relevant, timely, credible secondary research (10%) – what unattributed “beginner’s guide” is being referred to – what relevance does that have to helping a startup maximize SEO to best reach their targeted customers? Research has to be relevant to the reader – not just random data points. There should be several timely, relevant, and credible in-text citations in this section
Accurate use of APA-7 (7%) – Any reference about SEO older than 2015 is not timely; this field changes quickly – 4 out of 5 sources are not timely. Reference lists are alphabetical by last name of author. Journals are in italics. Indentation of Reference list is backward. Please use the APA-7 template emailed to the class on 7/22 or see https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/apa_style/apa_formatting_and_style_guide/reference_list_basic_rules.html
1200 or more words (7%) – no issues on word count.
Summary that presents the substance of the main document in condensed form (3%) – The draft’s opening paragraph is not an acceptable Executive Summary. The Exec Summary should be 1 to 1 1/2 pages long and contain the following elements:
Explicit statements of reader and purpose of paper
Condensed summarization of key points found in Previous Approaches and New Findings sections – exactly following the organization and hierarchy of those sections. There is no research presented in Exec Summary that is not found in the Previous Approaches and New Findings sections
A brief – 1 sentence – recap of the paper’s Conclusion section
An Exec Summary – mirrors in content and organization – the content of the main part of the document; all in 1 to 1 1/2 pages
Introduction that gives targeted reader road map for the paper (2%) – the introduction is 1 paragraph that does only 2 things: (1) state the purpose of the paper (help a startup use SEO to reach targeted customers) and (2) layout the organization of the paper (there will be two research sections and a conclusion)
Conclusion that draws connection between key points of paper and offers targeted reader options for next steps (2%) – there should not be anything in the conclusion (PPC and modeling) that have not already been discussed in the Previous Approaches and New Findings sections
what relevance does that have to helping a startup maximize SEO to best reach their targeted customers?
