The risk of suicide attempts among adolescents and young adults are the top priority concern in the United States (Reyes, Lake, Kleinman, & Gould, 2019). Among adolescents, suicide attempts are the second lead causing of death, and 8% of high school students engage in suicidal behavior. (Peters, Mereish, Solomon, Spirito, & Yen, 2019). I choose this topic of Suicidal attempts among adolescents and young adults to do more research because where I work on the mental health unit at M Health Fairview Hospital, it is inconsolable to care for this type of group of patients. Suicide attempts among adolescents and young adults are topics the medical professionals need to address in society as earlier as possible. The risk factors that researchers identify cause suicide attempts among adolescents and young adults are gender, ethnicity, physical and sexual abuse, peer victimization, including psychiatric problems such as depression, anxiety, and substance abuse (Peters, Mereish, Solomon, Spirito, & Yen, 2019).
I used only peer-reviewed journals between 2015 and 2021 as a filter. I searched for suicide attempts among adolescents and young adults. The database is excellent and easy to use. Using peers review articles, narrow down the search using few words is spectacular research for professional use. It was tough at all to find themes related to this topic. I would recommend these articles to peers because they have comprehensive information regarding suicide attempts among adolescents and young adults. These articles would be superbly helpful to guide professionals to find a solution and understand the cause of mental health issues, including suicide attempts among adolescents and young adults in the communities. Research shows the most common risk factors for suicide thoughts attempts among adolescents and young adults is the experience of loss, death, or break up in friendships or romantic relationships (Daniel, Goldston, Erkanli, Heilbron, & Franklin, 2017). These articles are highly informative to the community on preventing suicidal attempts among adolescents and young adults and explaining that mental illness assessment needs to be reformed.
