Your 2nd Assignment for Grading (10% of the Total Grades for the Course)
As you did in the previous paper, here too you write only two paragraphs, both paragraphs in about 450-500 words. Each paragraph should have at least 200 words. Your writing should be based on the lecture, as well as the the summary article attached separately.
1. Paragraph 1 is the summary of the lecture
To repeat, summarize the entire lecture, not a part of it.
Write the summary after attentively reading the following instructions. Those who earn higher grades are those who follow the instructions.
How to Write a Successful Summary
A successful summery, in terms of its content, gives the reader the most important points in a piece of writing, so after reading the article, You should ask yourself, “What are the important points in this paper?” You must be aware that the most important point in a well-written article is the writer’s main argument, which should be your topic sentence in the summary. You need to read the entire paper carefully to extract the writer’s main argumentative point.
Supporting sentences, which should follow your topic sentence, should summarize other important points in the paper. You must be able to decide which should be included or excluded. Make sure to omit details.
In a summary, you do not have to write a closing sentence. Usually, a closing sentence restates the topic sentence, but you do not have to do so in a summary.
A summary is as it is; you should never give evaluative statements—your opinions, ideas, comparisons, etc.—in a summary.
How to Enrich your Style in a Summary:
1. Topic sentence should be the first sentence. (Example: In the given article, the writer claims that ….) Make sure to summarize the writer’s main argumentative point in a single sentence.
2. Use the Present Simple tense throughout (The writer claims/says……)
3. Do not writing floating sentences in the body. Choose relevant transitional words or expressions (further, again, however, etc.) to maintain unity within the summary.
2. Paragraph 2 is your response to the article.
Here is where you write your views, understanding, reactions to the article and its argument. This paragraph should have
1. Topic sentence: I am giving an example to help you. You should be original. (Example: The article is an eye-opener to the people who are blinded by inaccurate and insufficient views about the ultimate purpose in life.)
2. Supporting sentences (Elaborate on the topic sentence with supporting sentences.)
3. This section needs a closing sentence, which is a restatement of the topic sentence.
Note: As you did in the previous paragraph, use transitional words or phrases to retain unity inside the paragraph. I do believe you can write an excellent paper by following these instructions closely.
To earn a higher grade, do these:
1. Organize your paragraphs by following the instructions carefully.
2. Write correctly: avoid fragments, run-ons, and pronoun errors; do not use “I” or “you” (I, me mine myself, mine, you, your yours, yourself, yourselves).
3. Follow the MLA style (Times New Roman 12-size font with one-inch margin from all sides; double-spaced); A Word document or Google Doc is ok.
The heading should have:
Your name: Leslie Dawidowicz
My name: Professor Rahula
Course: English 1302
Date:
Assignment: Short Paper 2
