It is really hard to find a great bakery close to Santa Clara University. I am not kidding—it is so difficult. To satisfy the carbohydrate needs of SCU and its neighbors, we are seizing the opportunity to start a bakery with a storefront near campus. You get to choose what we will make, how many, and how much equipment we need. You can even choose the name.
As CFF (Chief Financial Foodie), your job is to estimate our start-up costs and funding needed to keep us open for six months (if we had no sales).
1. Start-up expenses
What would it take to launch? These are the one-time expenses that enable you to open the store.
Be sure to discuss each of the categories described in the module:
Facilities
Equipment, Furniture, and Supplies
Product Research and Development
Start-up Inventory
Advertising and Marketing
Insurance
Legal and Professional
Estimate costs and justify your answer in a short paragraph for each category.
Include data sources.
2. Monthly
Determine the monthly costs for the bakery. Using the start-up categories of expenses and the burn rate information will help you here.
3. Total
Then determine the amount you would need for launch and a six-month buffer. This includes the total for six months of operations and the start-up expenses.
Don’t forget the website with the detailed spreadsheet. Use it as a tool, but that level of detail is unnecessary for this assignment.
