3:47pm Although we go through the cycle of school, elementary school, middle school, high school, and then college, is all this knowledge we are gaining really beneficial to our lives of we aren’t able to be our creative selves. If the curriculum is the same and everything we are doing is the same from school to school what exactly are we learning? There are ways we can implement curriculum as well as give our students the opportunity to go through that creative process. There can be more arts, music, and construction incorporated into our lessons. Doing this allows children to take they’re being taught and apply it to something they enjoy doing. Many of our children don’t succeed because we don’t give them the access to these things, imagine how many less children will be in need of special education services if we just allow them to draw their assignment instead of writing a paper. Of course there are standards that need to be met, but nowhere in the standards does it say that creativity is not allowed.
Three key points:
Intelligence is diverse, dynamic, and distinct
If you are not prepared to be wrong, you’ll never be original.
We don’t grow into creativity, but we get educated out of it instead
There’s a hierarchy of the subjects just about in every school, and it goes math and language, humanities, and then arts. There is even a hierarchy in the arts where music is put before dance.
I will use this information in my classroom by always having room for creativity. Of course there are standards that must be met when in a public school setting, but I will come up with ways in which children can learn while doing things hands on or through movement. The early years of learning should be centered around the arts, so that children can have the opportunity to be their most creative selves.
