1. Write a reflection about your design and design process. After you create your poster, you will write a reflection/response to the act of designing the multimodal piece of communication. I recommend that you review the readings–especially the Writer/Designer chapters–for the module before writing the reflection so that you have the language, concepts, and ideas about multimodal composition, rhetoric, and design necessary to thoroughly critique your composition process. The reflection essay should be written using an academic tone. It is essential that you include quotations from the readings to support your approach to and understanding of your multimodal project. In this reflection you should address the following:
a. What were the first things that you considered when beginning the project? How did the rhetorical situation (W/D p. 35-43) for each part of your project influence your design decisions?
b. What were some of the touchpoints that you considered during your design process? How did they help guide you design? (review pages 10-11 in Writer/Designer for information about touchpoints)
c. How did the primary audience (the VCU students) and the secondary audience (the client) guide your design decisions?
d. How did Canva as a medium affect your design choices? How did its affordances help and shape your final designs? Conversely, what limitations and constraints did you encounter within the software? What did you do to sidestep or overcome these limitations? (review pages 22-28 in W/D for information about affordances and constraints).
e. Discuss specific design choices that you made and why you made them for at least three of the following elements (review pages 44-51 in W/D):
i. Emphasis
ii. Contrast
iii. Color
iv. Organization
v. Alignment
vi. Proximity
vii. Font
f. Overall, why do you feel that your text, the poster, is effective in its persuasion?
g. Any other relevant points, reflections, or thoughts you had about your design process during this assignment.
