Chapter two of The Courage to Teach focuses a lot on fear: the fear within the individual teacher, the fear of failure, the fear of students, the fear of being ineffective, and the fear of becoming cynical. What about teaching do you fear? How do you respond to those fears? How important to you is it to name those fears and address them both on a personal and professional level? What impact might addressing those fears have in your life and your teaching practice?

Instructions:
The common core standards are a controversial and often misunderstood framework for education. After reading about and watching this week’s media about the common core standards, you will engage in a detailed partner discussion about the common core standards.
First, early in the week, contact your assigned partner to create your shared Google document, plan a timeline for interaction, and discuss how you will fulfill the requirements of the assignment. Be sure both partners have access to the document.
Then, review the readings and media about the standards. Take notes on important facets of these standards, any areas of confusion or questions, and strengths/weaknesses of the standards. Cite your sources so you can properly reference your sources in your discussion with your partner.
Once you have a grasp on the issues at hand, begin the discussion with your partner about the Common Core standards.
