This project involves writing a research paper on the uses and applications of AI in a particular
industry. The title of your report would be:
“STRATEGIC APPLICATIONS OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN THE _______
INDUSTRY”.
The intent of this research is to find out how companies in different industries have adopted AI in
their quest to achieve their goals such as increasing profitability, market share, productivity,
operational, efficiency, quality, customer service, etc.
According to a July 2020 report, “The global artificial intelligence market size was valued at USD
39.9 billion in 2019 and is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 42.2%
from 2020 to 2027. The continuous research and innovation directed by the tech giants are driving
the adoption of advanced technologies in industry verticals, such as automotive, healthcare, retail,
finance, and manufacturing. However, technology has always been an essential element for these
industries, but AI has brought technology at the center of the organizations… Tech giants like
Amazon ..Google ..Apple ..Facebook ..IBM and Microsoft are investing significantly in the
research and development of AI. These companies are working for making AI more accessible for

In simple terms, AI refers to “the simulation of human intelligence in machines that are
programmed to think like humans and mimic their actions. The term may also be applied to any
machine that exhibits traits associated with a human mind such as learning and problem-solving.”
Today AI has been applied by companies in multiple industries to achieve their financial, strategic,
and operational goals. Some have used it to create disruptive business models. The following are
some of the industries in which AI has been applied:
– Financial services (fintech)
Within that industry, examine when and how
AI has been applied by business enterprises. Do a mini “case study” of at least 3-5 companies that
have adopted and used AI as part of the overall company strategy. These companies would usually
be considered the major “game changers” in the industry.
NOTE:
• The focus of your case studies should be on the USERS of AI and not the developers of
AI technology like Amazon, Google, Apple, IBM, Microsoft, etc.
• Be careful to distinguish an AI application from one that is not. Many electronic devices
or machines in the market today (e.g. toys and home appliances) are not AI-driven because
they are not “intelligent” or capable of learning on their own. “Smart machines”, on the
other hand, can reason, solve problems, make decisions, and even take action.

– Identify and investigate at least 3-5 companies that have actually used (not developed) AI
technology in their businesses in a major way. Ideally, each company that you select has used a
different type of AI technology or applied AI to a different area/aspect of the business.
– For each company, examine the reason for adopting AI, the specific AI application used, the
goal/objective that the company expects to achieve from the application itself, and the actual
results achieved. The outline for EACH case study would be as follows:

– Referencing is extremely important. There should be both in-text and end-of-text referencing
and they should exactly match. The APA style of referencing is recommended:
www.apastyle.org. The bibliography should be listed in alphabetical order by author’s last name.
APPENDICES (no page numbering)
– This is the last section of the paper and it includes all figures, graphs and tables. They should be
titled, numbered sequentially (Figure 1, Figure 2, etc…) and referred to in the appropriate section
of the paper. References for all figures and tables must be given at the bottom of each figure/table.
The paper should be a minimum of 5 text pages (using times roman 12 pt. with 1.5 spacing)
excluding executive summary, bibliography, and appendices. All figures/tables should be placed
in the appendices section at the end of the paper.
Before final submission, you must submit your paper to Turnitin.com and achieve a similarity
index of not more than 10% to be acceptable. I will be creating a Turnitin account for you to
submit your paper. Final paper must be submitted to instructor by email in WORD format,
