In July 2002, the National Strategy for Homeland Security report identified mission areas, established priorities for the coordination of domestic infrastructure, and developed the concept of homeland security. Within the National Strategy for Homeland Security report there are five areas of responsibilities or missions. identify the five areas of responsibilities and those agencies in charge of those responsibilities. You will also explain the roles of those agencies.

The Department of Homeland Security was created on November 25, 2002, with the implementation of the Department of Homeland Security Act of 2002. Identify the five areas of responsibility of Homeland Security, then, in your own words, identify the Homeland Security agencies that are in charge of those mission areas, and explain those agencies’ missions and roles. Introduction
Within each state, the executive branch coordinates state-level homeland security initiatives. The governors of each state are the highest elected official for that state, and the governor, along with state administrative agencies, are in-charge of implementing homeland security policies and procedures during a state of emergency. Though each state has different bureaucratic responsibilities when implementing homeland security initiatives, the principal roles of the leaders and agencies are recurrent. In this activity you will explore state governors’ roles and responsibilities when responding to a state emergency.
