Please read all 4 PDF documents (1. Eight Principles of Reform Judaism, 2. Conservative Jew on the Afterlife, 3. Who will be resurrected?, and 4. Excerpts from the Hebrew Bible (a.k.a. the Christian title of Old Testament; the PDF is in the NKJV translation; if you prefer KJV or another, click here (Links to an external site.) to conveniently read all the passages in one place) in the Unit 6 module in preparation for the reflection in this unit. While you do not have to list every writing in your answer to every question, each must be brought in at some point. You will be expected to refer to each document with specific quotations and citation (the document author — or its title or a shortened version thereof is fine for this assignment). Failure to quote/cite will result in a loss of points.
In at least one paragraph per topic, interact with documents 1, 2, and 3 in regard to the following questions. Be sure you have three clear paragraphs that fully discuss the questions below.
Paragraph 1: What differences do you see between the various writings/groups, especially in regard to the ideas of an afterlife and of bodily resurrection?
Paragraph 2: Which article uses the Hebrew Bible most in making its points in the first 3 PDFs (seen by their references to or quotes from books of the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament, or lack thereof), and which least uses it?
Paragraph 3: In the fourth document (Key excerpts from the Hebrew Bible – known by Christians as the Old Testament, in the New King James Version translation; if you’d prefer to read these passages in another translation, Biblegateway.com (Links to an external site.) has many options such as KJV, NIV, etc., and Sefaria.org has a recent Jewish translation here: https://www.sefaria.org/texts/Tanakh (Links to an external site.) ), what did you find most interesting or surprising (or, if you are familiar with all the excerpts, you may alternatively answer what you think people new to it might find most interesting or surprising)?
