Students will describe appropriate and effective books representing other cultures and strategies for sharing each book to promote the teaching of reading to culturally diverse groups through literature. Printable versiondownload
Read the textbook and other helpful materials related to appropriate and effective strategies for teaching reading to culturally diverse groups through literature in order to identify children’s books for each of the six cultures discussed in the textbook.
Identify a minimum of five children’s books that would be beneficial for each of the six cultures (30 books). Write a brief description/summary of each book. (3 – 5 sentences)
Present the books in a logical organization (i.e. alphabetically, by culture group, by age, etc.)
Consider how the book can be used. Would it be good for read alouds, silently, etc.? (1-2 sentences)
What age or grade would enjoy the book? What is the readability level of the book? (1-2 sentences)
Include 2 recommended discussion questions for each book.
Students will share an activity for one book that represents each culture (6 activities total/3-5 sentences)
Students will follow the APA Publication Manual (including all aspects such as headers, title page, and reference list)
The Books and Strategies Resource File must be submitted to Canvas for assessment.
