—————————————————————————————————————————
Minor details:
Total Time of Lecture must be: 20 – 45 minutes
Lecture: Must include the following
– Name of topic, main points of topic, why we do what we are doing along with example problems etc.
Lecture notes: Must contain the following
– What the student will learn (This is usually listed at the start of each section of the book)
– Why are they learning this material
– How this pertains to previously learned material
—————————————————————————————————————————–
Detailed Outline of lecture:
Heading (To be written for students to see at top of page or board). Should contain section number, name of section, etc.
Introduction – Introduce yourself and the concept being taught. Tell the students why mathematically we are doing this. You may relate to material that was in the section before if need be. Use graphs, pictures, etc. Try to keep the numbers to a minimum on this step. The introduction of the concept is key to telling the students why we are doing what we are doing. It gives the students an overview – larger picture of what is happening. The next steps narrow down the focus to the number crunching – the mechanics of the problem.
First steps – Start out with presenting an easy problem to demonstrate. Walk us through how to do the problem relating it back to the introduction concept as necessary. Walk us through 1 (or 2 problems if they are short), then have us try it on our own by giving us our own problem to try. –You may edit the video at this point so we don’t see you waiting for us–. Make sure you go over the problem that you gave us to check that we fully understand.
Next steps – Present a medium difficult problem and apply the concept to it. Give us one to try on our own.
Final steps – Present a hard problem, give us one to try on our own.
Summary – Summarize what we just learned, how we did it, and what our result was.
Issue Homework and final questions statement. YOU pick the homework problems from the book. Homework should be completed and attached to your lecture. Homework should have ALL STEPS WORKED OUT for a minimum number of problems. Minimum number of problems will be posted on the sign up sheet below. Some sections will require more homework than others so please be aware.
If you have questions about this final exam please ask and I will put the question and answer at the bottom of this page in the FAQ’s portion.

———-FAQ’s———-
Q: Do I have to be in front of the camera for the entire time?
A: No, you have a choice. You may record just your hand and voice working out the problems as seen on most youtube tutorials or you can record your work on a whiteboard in one of the classrooms.
Q: Can I edit my video or do I have to record the entire thing in one shot?
A: You may edit your video any way you want, just make sure you make the time frame and all main points from above.
Q: When is the due date for this project?
A: The Due Date for the project is end of class on Finals Day.
Q: Can we go off of notes when presenting?
A: YES! Just be aware I will be reviewing the content of the lecture and will be looking for inaccurate information so make sure your notes are correct.
Q: Why are there starred sections that we have not covered yet available for presentation?
A: These sections were chosen by the teacher so if the students wishes to go outside the box and teach something that is new to them they may do so.
Q: Can we choose our own section that is not on the list to present?
A: No, the sections chosen for the final exam are the only sections you may choose from.
Q: Can I change which section to present at a later date?
A: Yes, but I will need a final answer on what section you will be presenting by Friday 6/4/2021.
Q: When having the audience (students) try the problems on their own, can I put in the video that I paused for 2 minutes for them to complete the problem and will that count towards the total time?
A: Yes, however please give only a maximum time of 2 minutes per “try on own” problem that will count towards your overall lecture.
Q: Can we use old homework problems towards the homework limit?
A: Yes, you may use old homework towards the homework limit.
Q: Do I have to present the entire section or just part of it?
A: You must present enough of the section as to give your viewers a “reasonable understanding” of the material. Keep in mind that “reasonable” means at the college level, not the elementary level.
Q: When can I pick the section that I want to present?
A: You may choose which section you want to present as of now. Please be aware that I have 10 students and 17 sections to choose from so each student should have their own sections to work on. No repeat/duplicate sections please.
Q: Since we are doing a project for a final, do we need to be here for finals day?
A: Technically no. If all your work is turned in for the final exam ahead of time you do not need to attend my final exam. Keep in mind however that if something goes wrong with your video upload and I am unable to view it I will have no other choice but to give you a zero. Please make sure you submit your video in a format that I will be able to view. Youtube makes a great platform for video submissions, or you can upload your video to your own personal drive and share the link with me. You can also upload the video early and request that I check it for you to make sure I can view it so things go smoothly on finals day.
You don’t need to record the video just write out what’s gonna be in the video.
