1-Using the essay “Mock Spanish to Inverted Spanglish” describe why Mock Spanish is / can be ‘racist’ speech (think about what authors Jane Hill and Jonathan Rosa argue about the how Mock Spanish functions to racialize people differently). Option #2: Research Participation
The psychology department has an experiment management system called Sona, where you will find all research experiments currently being conducted in the department.
Sona Credit System: On the Sona system, experiments have different credit weights attached to them, based on the time commitment they require. Experiment weights range from 0.5 to 4.0 credits. The credit weight of a given experiment is included in its description on Sona.
Extra Credit Points: If you choose the research participation option, the amount of extra credit points you earn in the class will depend on the total number of credits you earn on Sona. To earn 10 extra credit points in the class you must earn at least 2 research credits on Sona. You can choose whatever combination of experiments will get you to the number of credits you wish to earn. Here is an equivalency chart to help guide you:

To access Sona, go to http://wpunj.sona-systems.com
If you do not already have an account:
On the Sona Login page request an account by clicking the “Request an Account” button
On the next page, provide the requested pieces of information to set up your account.
Under “Course” select this course – Cognitive Psychology Psy 3750-001.
You will be sent a Sona login by email.
If you already have an account:
Using your login, get into the system to see all experiments currently available for participation. Each experiment will provide you with a short description, credit weight, and available time slots.
The system maintains a log of all completed experiments; so you do not need to send me any participation slips. But you must make sure to select this course as the course to which your credits should be applied, otherwise your name will not show up on the class report that the Sona system generates.
If you have completed Sona assignments for other courses in the past, and you want to make sure your current sona points are applied to the current course, please log into Sona and go to “My Profile” and then “Change Courses” and add this course. When you complete a study you can select where to apply the credits.
