1. Open a NEW Word document and copy and paste the following tasks into it. You will need to RESPOND TO EACH OF THE 4 TOPICS BELOW.
TOPIC 1 = Describe how the novel Frankenstein reflects the Romantic/Gothic period Shelley lived in. List and explain 3 characteristics reflecting on the information you learned from the presentations at the beginning of the module.
TOPIC 2 = Discuss 3 symbols Shelley uses in Frankenstein and their significance in bringing out themes. (HINT: light, fire, journal, language, illness)
TOPIC 3 = Trace 3 similarities between Victor Frankenstein and the monster. Consider their respective relationships with nature, their desires for family, and any other important parallels you find. Do Victor and the monster grow more similar as the novel progresses? How does their relationship develop?
TOPIC 4 = Shelley’s book has a secondary title that is often ignored – i.e.Frankenstein: The Modern Prometheus. Read the Myth of Prometheus (PDF) and explain how/why Shelley chose this as the title for the novel. How does the myth correlate with certain themes and events in the novel?
