1. Confidentiality Statement (up to 200 words, not academically graded) Student

May 17, 2024

1. Confidentiality Statement (up to 200
words, not academically graded)
Students
must complete a confidentiality statement of around 200 words to be submitted
via Moodle with the academic elements of the portfolio. In this statement the,
student must clearly state the method they have used to ensure that people
discussed in the portfolio cannot be identified.
Guidance:
The right to confidentiality of people who use services must be rigorously
respected at all times. It is essential to ensure that individuals cannot be
identified from documents.  Omitting
surnames is not sufficient, and will be completely irrelevant where first
names, dates of birth or other details are still included.
The following guidelines must be
adhered to in all cases.
Real
names of people who use services or even their initials should never be
included.
Other
than in the learning agreement, the names of colleagues in the placement
agency should only be included with their written consent.
Actual
dates of birth should never be included.
(Ages may sometimes be relevant, but need not always be exact).
Best
practice is for students / s and Practice Educators to agree a reference e.g.
“Child A” or “Adult B” at the start of a piece of work and to use this in
all notes, etc. that are not being kept for agency purposes.
Documents/records
that are not fully anonymised must not be removed from the agency.
When
anonymising work for your evidence portfolio, no confidential/personal
information should be visible AT ALL. If you are blotting out documents
with black markers-these can still be transparent when held to the light
for example. Consider taking a photo copy and using this for your file.
All
memory sticks must be encrypted
Students
must follow agency policies and procedures regarding the storage and movement
of agency documents, and should take similar care of documents, such as
portfolios, assignments and reports, to ensure that they are not lost or
stolen, e.g. on public transport or from cars.
2. Critical Analysis on the impact of
Your Intervention (3,000 words) case study
This
case study is an academic assignment and will need to be seen by the Practice
Educator and then submitted at the end of your placement via Turnitin.  It will be marked by your college tutor.
The case study may refer to work with
an individual person using services, a family or a group. We would recommend
that you discuss your choice with your practice educator in order to ensure the
case you choose is suitable. It must also demonstrate your understanding of
relevant theory and knowledge (including law) and your ability to apply it in
practice.
You may want to consider the following
to help you in your selection of a piece of work:  Analyse the reason for your involvement and
role; be careful about the case you choose, try to avoid the most complex
pieces of work as they may be difficult to write about in a focused way.  You could choose to write about a particular
part of your work with a case e.g. just focus on your work with one child
rather than looking at all the work you did with the different members of a
family, or you could look at the first meeting you had with a service
user.  Make it clear in your introduction
that this is the strategy you are adopting and why.
Remember that your case study is not
intended to be a simplistic description of a piece of work, but rather a
critical analysis of practice that illustrates your purposeful use of your
practice skills and values.
Include
how you have used professional judgement and managed risk.  It is also about showing how you have applied
knowledge from literature and research; therefore, you should make it clear how
you have used knowledge to inform your practice.  You should make explicit reference to
articles, books and other sources of knowledge and you should reference these
appropriately (as you have had to do in your academic assignments).
The structure:
The
summary should be set out in a methodical way:
At
the beginning – in no more than 200 words, give an overview of the agency
context of your practice including relevant legislation. This will not be
included in the word count. You may wish to include a genogram.
An
introduction, briefly defining the piece of work chosen and reflective
model.
Analysis
of the initial reasons for your involvement and role
An
analysis of how you prepared for the work
An
analysis of how you assessed needs
An
outline and analysis of the planning undertaken
An
explanation and analysis of the form of intervention carried out
An
evaluation of the work so far including a consideration of how you used
supervision and your reflections on your learning from this piece of work
You
should have referred to the legislative background earlier but there are likely
to be specific points of law that you will need to refer to when analysing your
practice.
*My chosen case study is a young person i have worked with in school on a project called online harms the session I worked with her on was what is real vs what is fake which i put together an interactive powerpoint. she interacted and ingaged real well the purpose was to help her be more critical of what she see online that just because you see it or read it does not make it real.*
3. Knowledge and Skills Essay (1,000
words)
Identify
three to four examples from your practice which give evidence of your progress towards meeting the
requirements as outlined in the Chief Social Worker’s Knowledge and Skills
(KSS) Statements.
You will need to choose the KSS statement for either
adults or children and families depending on your placement setting.  In this piece, you should refer to evidence of
your direct work with individuals, carers and families.  Link to theory and legislation.
4. Choice control and participation
essay (1,000 words)
In preparation for this piece of work refer to PCF
domain 4 “Rights and Justice” and PCF domain 8 “Contexts and
Organisations”.   In 1,000 words critically analyse how the
placement agency engages with the views of people who use services in order to
consider power and oppression.
This section should include:
·
An analysis (1,000 words) looking at the
experience of inclusion and empowerment of people who use services and/or
carers, identifying the efficacy of the approaches highlighted throughout your
placement.
·
Consider to what extent people who use
services are involved in directing the service at both an individual and
strategic level
·
Outline some of the challenges inherent in
attempts to involve people who use services including ethical dilemmas and how
these can be addressed.
All pieces other than the
confidentiality statement are graded and must, therefore, adhere to academic
writing standards. As the pieces refer to your own practice you may refer to
yourself in the first person.
Work
must be referenced as per the Bradford College referencing guide and include a
full reference list.  References should
be included at the end of the submission rather than after each individual
essay.
