1) Assess your engagement with the client by considering your attending/listening skills. Did you remain “present” with the client by offering attunement responses, asking follow-up questions or prompts to help the client describe, explain, or share feelings, thoughts, and experiences?
2) Did your questions align with the client’s responses, or did you find yourself changing the topic/subject? Consider what was going on for you as the clinician i.e., were you uncomfortable with the material? Unsure of what to do or say next? Nervous or distracted?
3) Briefly describe the practice model you think you used to guide your session with the client. Were there times when you did not know what or why you were asking the questions or what to do next?
4) Discuss your preceptor’s feedback to the interview. What guidance or suggestion was most helpful? Discuss whether reviewing the process recording with your supervisor/preceptor was helpful.
5) Consider one or two areas of the session that you thought you excelled at and one or two areas that you will focus on improving.
