1. Upon understanding one’s personal scores as well as Figure 4.5: The Attribution Process, write a one-page
interpretation of an observed behavior/outcome that you have personally experienced (a win/loss; a
success/failure; an ally/competitor). You will want to discuss the Attribution of Cause given the three rules
when assigning internal or external attribution to an observed personal outcome AS WELL AS the Role of
Emotions in Behavior (p. 134-137 in Moodle Reading 1).
My success:
In undergrad school I applied to get into the speech language pathology (SLP) emphasis program
I got rejected because the head of the department told me she didn’t believe I could keep my GPA at a 3.4 or above.
I was devastated because my dream was to become an SLP so I was forced to go a different route one that I had no passion and did not care about but I did it because of my parents.
Once I graduated undergrad I took a year off then got a job in the degree I got from undergrad and absolutely hated it and ended up quitting 3 months later.
I still wanted to become a SLP so I went to another school to earn my post bachelors degree so I could apply for SLP grad school.
In the mean time I got a new job as an Applied behavioral analyst (ABA) therapist and had no idea what I just got a job in.
Once grad applications were approaching their deadline I was getting nervous that I didn’t have a back up plan if I didn’t get into SLP grad program so I quickly applied to a few BCBA (board certified behavioral analyst) programs to be safe. Still thinking I wanted to become an SLP.
I got into both an SLP and BCBA program and was given a week to decide which path I was going to take. In the end my gut feeling was telling me that I was meant to be a BCBA.
In the end getting rejected in undergrad school was a blessing because it led me to my dream career that I didn’t even know I existed and that I am a natural at.
