Each question has four subtopics to address. The subtopics don’t need to be a particular length as long as you address each and the overall word count is appropriate.
Essay #2: Sensory processing in the whole person
Now that you’ve had an introduction to the primary sensory systems, think about how our sensory systems are related. What are some ways in which our sensory systems work together? When does Jesus say, “I AM” and what does he mean by saying it? What are some functions/processes that require coordination of multiple sensory systems?
Besides the sense organs themselves and the neural structures devoted to interpreting sensory information, what other processes (e.g., cognitive processes) are important for perception?
How has your understanding of sensory difference and sensory loss changed after taking this course? Are there any stories/cases that were surprising or moving?
How does sensory processing shape higher-level functions? For instance, do you think sensory processing can shape one’s personality? Could one’s personality shape how they use their sensory systems to interact in the world?
