Whether you are a member of a group discussed in the readings (disabled, minority, LGBT) or based on your gender, there is no way to have avoided the issues presented in regard to inequality and leisure. The inequality may be due to unavailability, personal perceptions of welcomeness to participate, or maybe a reflection of an individual personality and motivation. Like the complexity of leisure, the reasons for inequity are complicated. For those in the groups discussed there is not only the complexity of the issues surrounding the group identity and challenges, but they also have to deal with all the other issues that were presented since the start of the course that influence leisure participation (money, time, geography, etc.).
Recognizing there is no way to have avoided the issues presented, either as an identified group member or non-member, you have some life experience with the issues presented. It could be first hand, or it may be how you have seen social change over your life course.
There are two parts to this discussion board.
PART 1 – Reflect on the issues presented in Unit 6, as well as the material covered throughout the course in regard to your life experiences and answer the following two questions. Although this is presented as two questions, your initial post should be an inclusive narrative. The questions are more to provide a context for your reflection.
-1- How has your life been impacted by the inequality in leisure?
2- How do you view the current social changes? What future social changes need to be made to give everyone equal access to the multiple benefits of leisure participation? “Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness”
