How do these principles shape your philosophy of handling tax payer funds in support of teaching and learning in a school setting?

June 24, 2021
Christopher R. Teeple

The principles of stewardship and submission run throughout Scripture. In Genesis, Adam is given stewardship over the Garden of Eden and he was to be faithful in tending the garden. Throughout Scripture, Christians are given stewardship over the resources God has graciously given. Along with stewardship, other important biblical principles such as integrity, faithfulness, resourcefulness, strategic planning, etc. play an important part in how administrators must handle school finances. In your thread for this Discussion, discuss one of the following:
How do these principles shape your philosophy of handling tax payer funds in support of teaching and learning in a school setting?
How do these principles determine how funds are raised and distributed to better the entire school community?

Biblical Principles, Stewardship, and School Finance
In the educational system, the budget director is the overseer of the development, management, distribution of funding to the schools within their district. Leaders in the educational field should always present themselves with high moral principles to foster trust and ethical practice in their daily actions or interaction. Integrity is defined, “as the quality of acting in accordance with relevant moral values, norms, and rules (Huberts, 2018). The distribution of funding should be aligned with strategic planning that is built upon one’s faithfulness to doing what is right while ensuring all schools are resourceful in supporting the teachers and guaranteeing students are receiving a quality education.
The principles of stewardship, integrity, faithfulness, resourcefulness and strategic planning should works jointly as The Bible mention, “Since an overseer manages God’s household, he must be blameless-not overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain. Rather, he must be hospitable, one who loves what is good, who is self-controlled, upright, holy, and disciplined. he must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has taught so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it.” (New International Version, 1769/2011, Titus 1:7-10).
The Bible verse discusses the overseer should represent what is good and moral to society. The ethical practice among educational leaders should provide teachers, parents, students, and other stakeholders with a perspective of what is considered proper conduct while creating differences between those actions that are considered right or wrong based on individual actions or attitudes. In my opinion, the role of a financial leader is to carry out a strategy that will effectively support and lead the school districts in meeting daily challenges as well as reaching target goals within each school. In order to have an efficient strategy among leaders and employees, there must be a relationship built that will foster the needs of the business as well as the needs of the teachers, students, and other stakeholders.
