Describe how elements in the program could be changed through use of the alternate theory and why these changes may be beneficial.

June 22, 2021
Christopher R. Teeple

Each student will complete a paper that applies an alternate health promotion theory or framework to the health promotion program or project they selected for their community project. If students conduct the community project as a group, then the alternate theories must be agreed upon among the group members so there is no duplication of theories in that group; and the Professor must be informed of the theories and who will cover which theory, no later than Week 9. Each student must prepare a 10-12 page (typed, double-spaced) paper describing the ways in which the health promotion strategy used by the organization would change from the existing health promotion strategy of the organization, when this alternate theory is used to drive development of the strategy. The 10 -12 pages do not include title page, references, tables, or figures. Margins should be 1 inch (top, bottom, sides) and 11 or 12 point font using Times New Roman, Arial, or Helvetica. Please carefully cite all sources, using American Psychological Association format or another standard scientific citation format. Please provide at least 10 references, including some from scientific journals. Wikipedia is not considered a valid source for purposes of this paper. Do not cite the text book more than once, if at all. There are ample citations for every theory and health problem in the literature. Follow these additional steps: 1. In the introduction to your paper, briefly describe the health program you addressed in your presentation project (no more than 1 or 2 paragraphs) and briefly mention the theory you applied in your presentation. Now, describe the health issue you are addressing in the paper and include some scientific publications about the need for intervention on this health issue. You can read most any scientific article in health and get ideas about how authors structure their papers and justify their topic. Will the reader think, “wow, this is important”? You should be able to provide a good introduction in a few pages, saving room for the major section of the paper described below. 2. In the major section on the alternative theory, describe why the alternate theory you have chosen could help address this health issue. Provide some justification from the scientific literature (not the textbook) for use of this theory. Describe how elements in the program could be changed through use of the alternate theory and why these changes may be beneficial. In this part, be detailed about exactly how the program would change to take advantage of the alternate theory. For example, you could address various aspects of the program and consider how elements of the alternate theory would suggest a different intervention step. If you have tried hard but have “run out of steam” or ideas on applying just one alternate theory, you have the option to address some ideas from a second alternate theory. However, the main focus should be on the original alternate theory you have chosen, and any other theory should be described only very briefly.
